AMFM Nursing & Rehabilitation Centers Statement on COVID-19 and Vaccine Information

Published on Jan 03, 2021

AMFM Nursing & Rehabilitation Centers is one of the largest West Virginia owned and operated skilled nursing companies in the State with 19 nursing centers caring for nearly 1,500 patients. As always, we stay in touch with our patients, family members and employees about the COVID-19 status in each center. We also understand the importance of updating our communities.

As the numbers increase in West Virginia, we want to remind you where these updates about the status of COVID in our centers are available.

Our website, www.amfmwv.com, provides the number of positive patients in each center and the employee status is shared by the WV Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR) at www.dhhr.wv.gov/COVID-19 (click Long-Term Care tab). Each center provides updates to their local health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when a positive COVID-19 identification is made. We are in regular communications with our local health departments, related state agencies, as well as our patients, families, and employees. Employees who test positive quarantine at home while patients who test positive are cared for in isolated areas separate from other patients in the centers. Visitation information is updated and available on our website under the Visitation page. We offer televisit services for all of our centers for families and friends to stay in touch with their loved ones.

AMFM’s clinical team began in early March planning for the possible spread of COVID-19 to West Virginia. Each center proactively began screening employees and guests for high fevers, cough and other symptoms of COVID-19. A system of wristbands or stickers was provided to those entering the center to track and ensure everyone was screened. Per the Governor, CDC and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, we began restricting all visitors until the State of West Virginia began allowing for limited visitation.

Since then, we continue employee screenings and have employees assigned to specific care areas. Additionally, Environmental employees are continuously cleaning commonly touched surfaces (doorknobs, handrails, desk, etc…) during day and evening shifts. We have adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE), and continue to receive PPE and other supplies needed. Our employees continue to follow the CDC guidelines and monitor our patients closely for signs or symptoms of the virus.

2,139 vaccine doses were administered to employees and patients since December 15th. All 19 AMFM centers will administer the 2nd dose of the two-dose vaccine to employees and patients this week.

We all must continue to do our part and encourage others to be vigilant by wearing your face mask, social distance, and practice good hand hygiene. Do your research now about the vaccine so that when it is made available to you, then you will be prepared. These are simple and important steps that we can take to slow the spread of the virus and protect those we care about.
