AMFM honored with first-ever “Mountain Movers” award

Published on Oct 11, 2022

American Medical Facilities Management (AMFM) was recently presented with the first annual West Virginia Health Care Foundation “Mountain Movers” award for going above and beyond in its support of the Foundation and its charitable mission.
The award was presented to AMFM at the annual West Virginia Health Care Association (WVHCA) Awards Banquet hosted in Morgantown, WV. The convention and awards banquet recognizes the best in skilled nursing and assisted living centers in the state.
The award was accepted on AMFM’s behalf by Administrator in Training Drew Elliot, Vice President of Compliance/Operations Tammy Jo Painter and Regional Director of Operations Matthew Poorman.
“We wanted to give due recognition to those who have not only been generous with their financial support but have advanced and moved the long-term care industry to bigger and better aspirations,” said Mary Ferrell, President of the West Virginia Health Care Foundation, who presented the award.

The West Virginia Health Care Foundation awards scholarships each year to employees of West Virginia Health Care Association facilities to assist them in attaining their educational and professional goals.
In the past ten years, AMFM has contributed nearly $70,000 to the Foundation. In addition to financially supporting and sponsoring the annual charity golf tournament, AMFM has annually given a per-facility donation to the Foundation.
Several AMFM employees have been beneficiaries of scholarships from the Foundation over the years. Crystal Weaver Smarr, Vice President of Human Resources, received the scholarship in 2006 and 2007 and used the money toward earning her Master's Degree in Health Care Administration.
"I have never been a traditional student and always worked full-time while attending college," Smarr said. "This made the financial side of furthering my education very difficult. To receive even a small amount meant a lot to me.”
The AMFM Charitable Foundation has also annually sponsored a $2,500 scholarship. The scholarship is open to all employees of WVHCA member facilities and reflects the commitment of AMFM to help fund and provide scholarships for our long-term care workers.
“AMFM is very excited to receive the Mountain Movers Award,” said Debra Anderson, Executive Director of AMFM Home Office. “It’s an honor to be recognized for the contributions made to the foundation over the years.”
